NEW YORK, SUFFOLK CO.: Huntington Station, in the Paumonek Wetland, west of Walt Whitman High School, approx. 3 m west of the athletic fields. Small tree, barely breaking into the canopy close to the edge of the woods. Small, shiny acutely cordate leaves; abaxial side dull gray-green with orangey-tan hairs at the junctions. Flowers sweetly perfumed. With Nyssa sylvatica, Lindera benzoin, Toxicodendron radicans, Maianthemum racemosum, Alliaria petiolata, and Arisaema triphyllum. Matthew C.
