Tree to 6 m. Single trunk; branches barely weeping, horizontal.
Vertical black stripes at base of trunk; bark gray peeling to white.
Twigs brown with white spots; just starting to leaf out. Growing in a
brushy, 21 year old old-field with Juniperus virginiana, Solidago
rugosa, Malus and Artemisia vulgaris.
