Base of trunk with vertical black stripes; bark further up trunk chalky white with buff and black stripes. Growing in a brushy 21 year old old-field with Prunus serótina, Betula pendula, Juniperus virginiana, Lonicera japónica, Cornus florida, Pinus strobus and Alliaria petiolata. Matthew C.
