Habitat
Growing in fine sand on floodplain of river; this area formerly covered with Polygonum cuspidatum.

Description
Herbs, some plants especially robust (stems, leaves and flowers all larger than most), these usually surrounded by the more abundant, smaller plants; the large plants leaf adaxials with purple in the center, especially at the base and along the major veins; forming very large colonies; this one 40 m long and 20 m wide.
