Description
Genus Description - Small, dioecious, unarmed palms; leaf-sheaths long tubular, vaginate, lamina more or less unequally pinnate to simple. Male and female inflorescences subequal to rather distinct, long pedunculated with three or more membranaceous bracts; fruit with a basal stigmatic remain, albumen homogeneous.

Type. C. pinnatifrons (Jacquin) Oersted.
Chamaedorea is a predominantly Central American genus with only a limited number of species in northwestern South America, often occurring at high elevations. The genus has been reported to occur in the western part of the Guayana Highland but no specimens were available for the present treatment.
