Description
Species Description - Sterile plants 35-70 cm tall, flowering plants to over 100 cm, forming broadly funnelform rosettes. Leaves thin-coriaceous, 40-75 cm long; sheath elliptic, 13-17 cm long, dull pale brown to castaneous at base and adaxially; blade strapshaped, 5-6.5 cm wide, very broadly rounded and triangular, attenuately acute or apiculate, very sparsely and minutely lepidote, lustrous green with purple-red, transverse bands. Inflorescences unbranched, the peduncle erect, 30-50 cm long, the floral bracts finely carinate toward apex, ovate-oblong, 6.6-8 cm long, glabrous abaxially, bright-red. Flowers slightly arcuate- secund at anthesis, short-pedicellate; sepals 2.3-2.9 cm long, ecarinate, almost free; petals suberect, yellow.
Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Feb, Mar), fr (Aug, Oct); locally common but only on rock outcrops.
