Description
Species Description - Rhizome creeping, slender, 3 mm diam.; rhizome hairs bristle-like, thick, 1.5 mm long, reddish-brown; fronds erect, clumped, 10-67 cm long, ca. 10-20 cm broad, deflate; stipe 1/3 or less the frond length, castaneous, pubescent, hairs 0.5-1.0 mm long; blade 3-4 times pinnate; rachis subflexuous, pubescent, hairs 0.5-1.0 mm long; segments 1.0-1.5 mm wide, with emarginate apex, thin, hairs on upper and lower surfaces (0.5-1.0 mm long); vein endings enlarged; sori elongate along veins, margin not recurved; spores reddish-brown.

(P! in herb. gen. ex Bonpland, photo GH; isotype H&B coll., frag. B!). Psilogramme chiapensis Maxon, Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 42: 81. 1915. Type. Mexico. Chiapas: Cerro del Boquerón, Purpus 6722 (US!; isotypes BM, F, GH, HBG, P, US!). For additional synonyms, see A. Tryon (1970) Oaxacan material corresponds to var. hirtus; var. glandulosus (Karsten) A. F. Tryon is known from Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia. The broader, more pubescent segments distinguish E. hirtus from E. flexuosus.
