The New York Botanical Garden is in the process of making data about the species of Neotropical Lecythidaceae available over the Internet. Our goal is to provide information about the taxonomic history, synonyms, morphology, diagnostic features, common names, distribution, phenology, pollination, dispersal, uses, and taxonomic problems available to researchers and persons interested throughout the world. At the present time this information is available for the Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa), the cannon-ball tree (Couroupita guianensis), and most Mesoamerican species.
