Description:

Description: Terrestrial shrubs to 0.75 m tall; stems subterete, striate, glabrous; twigs complanate, angled, striate, puberulent with eglandular hairs. Leaves succulent, ovate, (1 )2-4.2 x (0.8 )1.5-2.5 cm, base rounded or slightly subcordate, apex rounded or obtuse (rarely retuse), margin flat, eciliate, lamina glabrous above with glandular hairs beneath; 3 plinerved from base, midrib and lateral nerves conspicuously impressed above, sometimes raised but usually obscure beneath, tertiary veinlets impressed above but obscure on both surfaces; petiole terete, rugose, 1-2 mm long, puberulent. Inflorescences axillary, flowers solitary or in fascicles of 2-3, equaling or slightly exceeding the subtending leaves; floral bracts several, ovate, <1 mm long; pedicel thin, terete, 18-25 mm long, glabrous or sparsely short pilose near base; bracteoles 2, nearly basal, subopposite, linear, ca. 0.5-1 mm long, ciliate with glandular hairs. Flowers 4-merous, diplostemonous; calyx 2.5-3 mm long, with minute glandular hairs; tube subspherical to obconic, 1.5-2.5 mm long; limb campanulate, 0.5-1 mm long; lobes triangular, apiculate, 0.1-0.2 mm long, with a tuft of hairs dorsally; sinuses rounded; corolla subcylindric, 5-6 mm long, bright yellow, glabrous without, the lobes strongly reflexed but not exposing stamen tips at anthesis, triangular, acute, ca. 0.75 mm long; stamens 8, equal in length, 5.5 mm long; filaments basally conspicuously callose thickened, 3 mm long, pilose distally; anthers 2.8-3 mm long; thecae 1-1.3 mm long, the base straight, with basal appendage, foveolate with papillae; tubules 1.4-1.5 mm long, dehiscing by a cleft 0.6 mm long; style ca. 6 mm long. Berry ellipsoid, 6 x 4 mm, lavender, glabrous; embryo color unknown.

Distribution: Endemic to the Western Cordillera of Colombia(Parque Nacional Natural Munchique). It grows in premontane cloud forest at 1875–2256 m.

Type: Colombia. Cauca: Parque Nacional Munchique, Km 50–55 along road above Uribe, 1875–2256 m, 25 April 1979 (fl, fr), Luteyn et al. 7452 (holotype COL!; isotypes AAU, CAS, E, L, MEXU, O!, NY!, STE, S!).

Conservation status: Vulnerable (VU D2).
