Description:

Description: Weakly erect, epiphytic shrub with branches pendent to ca. 2 m long; twigs subterete, minutely striate, densely white-pilose, glabrate. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic-lanceolate, 6-10 x 1.5-3 cm, basally obtuse to rounded, apically acuminate, the apex itself blunt, glabrous above except along midrib, moderately pilose on surface and nerves beneath; weakly 3-plinerved, midrib impressed above and raised beneath, lateral nerves and veinlets raised above and inconspicuous beneath; petiole terete, rugose, pilose, 3-5 mm long. Inflorescence axillary, solitary, racemose, ca. 5-flowered, densely white-pilose overall except for corolla; rachis subterete, striate, 1-1.5 cm long; floral bracts and bracteoles persistent, lanceolate, acuminate, ca. 3.5 mm long; bracteoles marginally glandular-fimbriate; pedicels subterete, 16-21 mm long. Flowers with calyx ca. 6 mm long; hypanthium cylindric-campanulate, ca. 2 mm long; limb campanulate, ca. 4 mm long including the lobes; lobes broadly triangular, acute, ca. 1.5 mm long; sinuses broadly rounded; corolla globose-urceolate, ca. 11 mm long, red when fresh, the lobes triangular, ca. 1-1.5 mm long, white when fresh; stamens 10, alternately ca. 4.7 and 5 mm long; filaments connate, ca. 2.5 mm long; connectives sparsely pilose; anthers alternately ca. 3 and 3.5 mm long including the tubules; thecae ca. 2 mm long. Fruit not seen.

Distribution: Endemic to Bolivia and only known from two collections.

Type: Bolivia. La Paz: South Yungas, 7 km S of Huancané, 2400 m, montane forest, 3 Jul 1981 (fl), Beck 4708 (holotype, L, photo NY, neg. 11113; isotype, NY).

Cultivated: NY

Conservation status: Rare and endangered.
