Inflorescence 9-12-flowered, with lowest few nodes sterile; rachis subterete, stout, 1.5-2.5 cm long and ca. 5 mm in diam.; floral bracts chartaceous, translucent when dry, spatulate, 33-45 mm long and 15-20 mm broad across the apically rounded and deeply emarginate top, narrowing sharply to 2-6 mm broad at base, pale reddish-violet when fresh, lamina provided with tiny, red, clavate glands abaxially; pedicels striate, 8-13 mm long and 1-1.5 mm in diam.; bracteoles similar to floral bracts, but 36-44 mm long and 10-12 mm broad across top and narrowing to ca. 1 mm at base, conspicuously imbricate distally when in bud, margins eglandular. Flowers: calyx 8-8.5 mm long; hypanthium cylindric, bluntly 5-angled, 3-3.5 mm long, shallowly apophysate basally with apophysis undulate not lobed; limb cylindric, 5 mm long; lobes narrowly triangular, acute, 3-3.5 mm long, erect after anthesis, marginally glandular-callose with glands oblong and running length of each lobe; sinus obtuse; corolla cylindric, glabrous, 42.5 mm long and ca. 7 mm diam., white, lobes ca. 3 mm long, "purple"; stamens 37-38 mm long; filaments alternately ca. 2.5 mm and 10.5 mm long, the long ones puberulent; anthers alternately ca. 36 mm and 28.5 mm long; thecae 14-15 mm long. Mature berry not seen.

Discussion:

Cavendishia santafeensis is characterized by exceptionally long and deeply emarginate bracteoles, the largest known in the genus. Unfortunately it is known from only three collections from which only one mature corolla could be studied. Additional material is needed before its position within ser. Englerianae is understood, although it shows a superficial resemblance to C. engleriana where this is discussed in more detail.
