Description:

Pileus 2-5 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, subtomentose, becoming finely areolate with age, dark gray brown (6F7-6, like chrysenteron) fading to a pale gray brown (6D-E6-5-4), with a slight sterile margin when young. Flesh pale yellow to white, slowly bluing with exposure, up to 5 mm thick, with mild odor and taste. Tubes depressed around stipe, bright yellow when young, yellowish green with age, bluing when exposed; pores concolorous, staining likewise, up to 1 mm broad, sometimes compound. Stipe 2-5 cm long, 5-10 mm broad, ±equal, strict or curved, dry, yellow at apex, developing a fine red pruina below, with pruina becoming brown toward base, with pale yellow basal mycelium; interior yellow as in pileus when young, rhubarb red with age, bluing with exposure above. NH4 (-). Spores smooth, fusoid.

Montane cloud forest. Quercus costaricensis. Gregarious. In humus.
