Description: Placentation of an inferior ovary of Lecythis minor based on Nee 7226 from Summit Gardens, Canal Zone, Panama. A. Overall view. B. Close-up of the preceeding section. Note that the placentae arise from the lower septum (the area below the articulation). The ovules are anatropous and the funicle and the developing aril can be seen in these images. The ovules in these images are between 0.6 and 0.8 mm long.

Definition
The organ that contains the egg and, after fertilization, becomes the seed. The ovules are included within locules of an ovary and are attached to the placenta in different ways that, in some cases, are generic specific.

In neotropical Lecythidaceae, the ovules are usually anatropous, bitegmic, and tenuinucellate.
